The thread does not re-litigate whether all ethics is consequentialist. It names two engineering objects the essay treats as one procedure. Foot (1967) and Thomson (1976, 1985) used the tram to split redirecting a threat from using a person as a tool, not to fill in ages. When engineers had to ship a policy, MIT's Moral Machine (Nature 2018) scored the missing variables — age, count, status — and Germany's Ethics Commission (June 2017, rules 8–9), Daimler's walkback, and UNECE Regulation 157 forbade using those scores as a killing ranking. Discriminator: a type-approved automated lane-keeping system either encodes "spare the child, hit the retiree" or it encodes "no reasonably foreseeable preventable collision" and leaves the dilemma unprogrammed. Until that split is scored, "the trolley problem is engineering" does not say which machine to build. Author dispositions stay author-owned.
